How Notion design tool designs columns, headers and dividers

When using Notion, you need to organize your ideas to easily organize your structure and the notes you need to keep. The Notion design tool will help you to remember in a more systematic and efficient way.

Drag and Drop

This allows you to move any content block within the Notion. Include tables, tags and even text.

Use the ⋮⋮ icon to the left of the block as you move the mouse over. Then, drag and drop the block to be moved to another position you want. Note that when moving the block, blue bands will appear, representing the position of the upcoming block if you release the mouse button.

This will help you rearrange the order of the content in Notion, improving your own memory.

Column

In addition to changing the order, Notion also assists you in setting up adjacent columns when your information needs to be included in a group.

Similar to changing the order above, you still use the ⋮⋮ icon to the left of the block to be dropped to manipulate. Hold down and drag your block next to the block you want (another column of the data sheet). This time, while moving horizontally, you will see a vertical blue strip representing the block position when you release the mouse button. You can create as many new columns as you want across the width of the page.

Here’s another example of how columns might be useful:

Alternatively, you can resize the column by dragging and dropping the gray strip at the edges of the block. Once there, you will see the content length changed.

However, the mobile devices do not yet support creating multiple columns. But I believe Notion will fix this soon for a more mature app.

Title and subheading

The use of headings is essential when you have a lot of information on a page. It helps you differentiate between sections, priority and easier to find. Here, Notion gives you three header sizes:

There are several ways to add them to your page:

Method 1: When moving the mouse over a new line, you click + appear and select an appropriate title.
Method 2: Input the symbol / and then add H1, H2 or H3
Method 3: Use Markdown and enter # for H1, ## for H2 or ### for H3, then press space.
Method 4: Enter the title you want in advance then press cmd / ctrl + / and select a suitable title size. The text you wrote will become that title.

Dividers

Assuming you want to break down your content to get attention or create separate sections of ideas, creating a divider is the best option for you.

First, move your mouse to a new line and select the + symbol. Then choose Divider from the menu. Next, type — (three consecutive hyphens) and a separator will pop up automatically. This separator can be moved to the desired place by changing the block position as shown above.

In addition, Notion also allows you to quote a certain block of text in the process of making a report. You use the + icon and choose Citation from the menu. Type / followed by q and then enter the quote. Use Markdown and type “, then press space.
